MWC 2019 is officially over for another year and as always what an amazing four days it was.

Over the last few days we have seen 5G products and services, connected cars, VR, AI, IoT devices, new handsets and even monster trucks, live surgery and cabaret singers.

Huawei debuted its impressive folding phone, the Mate X, that stole the show in terms of new smartphone designs but the hot topic that dominated most conversations at MWC was 5G and the role it will play in revolutionising companies across all sectors. As we continue with the year ahead it will be interesting to see how each market tackles the roll out of 5G and what impact Brexit will bring in terms of reaching a common approach for Europe around legislation and security.

Before we say adios from Barcelona, it is worth reflecting once more on one of the key highlights from MWC 2019.  In front of a packed and, at times, aghast audience at the Fira Gran Via, we saw the head of Hospital Clinic Barcelona’s gastrointestinal surgery unit use 5G technology to direct, via video link three miles away, the removal of a cancerous tumour from a patient’s colon. The marvel of modern technology knows no bounds.
